Today, our government introduced Bill C-28: the Canadian Space Launch Act.
Canada reached the moon, but still lacks its own way to space. That changes today with the Canadian Space Launch Act.
The Canadian Space Launch Act delivers sovereign Canadian space launch capabilities. This will drive billions in investments, create good paying jobs, create a new commercial space industry in Canada, and strengthen Canadian sovereignty.
With the passage of the Canadian Space Launch Act, the Canadian space industry could be worth over $40 billion dollars.
Canada is the only country in the G7 without sovereign space launch capabilities. Canada and its businesses must rely on foreign countries for its space launches. This reliance sends investments out of Canada, creates costly delays, and leaves critical infrastructure exposed to decisions beyond our control. In a more uncertain and competitive world, Canada cannot depend on others to secure access to space for our economy, our defence, and our future.
We built the Canadarm, built one of humanity’s first satellites, and flew past the moon. Now we will get to space on our own terms.
