Building Canada’s High-Speed Rail Future

What You Need to Know

Canada deserves a strong economy and a transportation network that keeps Canadians moving, connects communities, and supports long-term economic growth. As we continue taking the necessary steps to make this vision a reality, Alto has released a comprehensive economic assessment outlining the project’s projections and the significant benefits high-speed rail will deliver for Canadians and across the country.

Since January 2026, Alto has hosted open houses and engaged with Canadians across the corridor, with more than 10,000 people having had the opportunity to share their views. This latest analysis builds on that engagement by providing a clearer picture of what high-speed rail will mean for Canadians.

We are not only delivering faster and more reliable travel, but also unlocking broader economic opportunities by creating jobs, connecting people, and expanding labour markets. This is how we continue to build a more competitive and connected Canada.

As we look ahead, Alto will continue advancing its engineering and environmental studies, refining its delivery approach, and continuing to engage with Indigenous communities, provinces, municipalities and Canadians. We will continue to collaborate with communities and local leaders to ensure we are building the future of Canada’s transportation system together.

Key Messages

  • Delivering High-Speed Rail is about more than infrastructure. It is about building the transportation network Canada needs to support our economy, connect communities and create opportunities for future generations.

  • Our current transportation system is reaching its limits. Roads are congested, airports are under pressure and rail is constrained. Alto will provide a faster, more reliable connection between communities while helping move people and our economy forward.

  • This is a major and generational economic investment. It is expected to deliver $49.5B in direct benefits over 60 years, create 50,000 construction jobs and 5,000 ongoing jobs, and save Canadians 9.3B hours in travel time.

  • Canada’s largest economic region needs a transformative solution, not a partial fix. Alto is about building a stronger and competitive Canada, while laying the foundation for economic growth and opportunity for generations to come.
