What You Need to Know
Canada helped invent modern AI – but too often, Canadians created the breakthroughs and others captured the value. AI for All is Canada’s plan to change that.
AI for All: Canada’s New AI Strategy, will protect Canadians, create opportunity, drive adoption, build sovereign control, and help Canadian companies compete.
In the next five years, AI is expected to create up to 250,000 new jobs across the economy. Through the AI Strategy, Canada will also create 90,000 targeted jobs for young people and early-career workers.
Canada’s AI for All Strategy is anchored in three key priorities: building trust, creating opportunities, and reinforcing Canadian sovereignty.
This strategy is about moving Canada from AI invention to AI impact – because Canadians need to see what AI does, not just what AI is.
Key Messages
AI for All means every Canadian gets an opportunity to use AI, build with it, and benefit from it.
Canada is building trust so Canadians know AI is safe, accountable and governed in the public interest.
Canada has world-class AI research. Now we need more AI adoption in hospitals, farms, factories, small businesses and public services.
The strategy sets a goal of more than 60% business AI adoption, up from 12%, so Canada ranks in the global top 10 for AI adoption.
AI is expected to support up to $200 billion in GDP gains by 2031, representing about a 3% increase in GDP, and support 250,000 new jobs in key sectors.
Canada has 3,500 firms actively working in AI and 150,000 jobs directly associated with AI. The next test is whether we capture more of the value here: companies, jobs, IP, investment and global market share.
